The Afzal-ul-Ulama Preliminary Course is a two-year foundation programme designed to develop proficiency in the Arabic language and literature. The curriculum encompasses Arabic prose, grammar, classical literature, Islamic history, Fiqh, the Qur’an, Hadith, and English. Equivalent to the Plus-Two Humanities stream, the programme provides a strong academic foundation for pursuing higher studies and qualifying for school-level Arabic teaching positions.
The BA Afzal-Ul-Ulama Programme offers a comprehensive study of Arabic language, literature, Islamic studies, history, and culture. The programme introduces students to the rich linguistic, literary, intellectual, and cultural heritage of Arabic through the study of classical and selected modern texts. It provides a strong foundation in Arabic language while developing an understanding of major literary traditions, historical developments, and the cultural connections between Arabia, India, and Kerala. Through different areas of study, students gain knowledge of Arabic as a language of literature, scholarship, religion, communication, and cultural exchange.
The Kannur University M.A. Arabic Language and Literature Programme is a four-semester postgraduate course delivered in affiliated colleges under the Choice Based Credit and Semester System (CBCSS) within an Outcome Based Education (OBE) framework, implemented from the 2023 admission. Spread across two academic years with 18 weeks per semester, it requires a total of 80 credits — a minimum of 64 from core courses and 12 to 16 from electives and open electives, with no single course exceeding 5 credits and the project and viva together carrying up to 10 credits. Evaluation is split 20% continuous assessment and 80% end-semester examination, graded through an indirect grading system on a scale from A+ (Outstanding) to F (Fail), with a minimum grade point of 4 required to pass any course and a minimum OGPA of 4 needed to earn the degree. Attendance is set at 75% (73% for female students, with maternity leave provisions), and syllabus design follows Bloom's revised taxonomy across four modules per course to ensure progressive cognitive development from remembering to creating.
